A GUIDE TO SOME DRUGS WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO ABUSE
The first step in preventing drug problems is to know what they are. This guide lists illicit ( prohibited ) drugs and legitimate ( permissive ) drugs and indicates how drug abusers may be spotted . Read carefully and keep on file.
Illicit ( Prohibited ) drugs ( Manufacture and distribution prohibited except for approved research purposes.)
Hallucinogens:
Slang names: LSD, Acid
Danger: very small quantities of LSD may cause hallucinations lasting for days or repetitive psychotoxic episodes, which may recur months after injection. Permanence of mental derangement is still a moot question. Damage to chromosomes, and hence potentially to offspring, has been demonstrated.

Heroin:
Slang names: Snow, Stuff, H, and Junk
Danger: like morphine; dependence usually develops more rapidly. Dependence liability is high.

Marijuana (Cannabis):
Slang names: Joints, Sticks, Reefers, Weed, Grass, Pot, Mugs, Muggles, Indian hay, Locoweed, Mu, Giggle-smoke, Griffo, Mohasky, Mary jane
Danger: Because of the vivid visions and exhilaration which result from use of marijuana, abusers may lose all restraint and act in a manner dangerous to themselves and/ or others. Accident prone because of time and space sense disturbance. Dependence ( psychic but not physical ) leads to antisocial behavior and could be forerunner of use of other drugs.
Legitimate( prmissive ) drugs (essential to the practice of medicine, legitimate manufacture and distribution are confined to ethical drug channels.

Amphetamine:
Slang names: Bennies, co-pilots, footballs, hearts, pep pills
Danger: Amphetamines can cause high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, and even heart attacks. Teenagers often take them to increase their “nerve”. As a result, they may behave dangerously. Excess or prolonged usage can cause hallucinations, loss of weight, wakefulness, jumpiness, and dangerous aggressiveness. Tolerance to large doses is acquired by abusers; psychic dependence develops but physical dependence does not; and there is no characteristic withdrawal syndrome.

Barbiturates
Slang names: Red birds, Yellow jackets, Blue heavens, Goof balls
Danger: Sedation, coma, and death from respiratory failure. Inattentiveness may cause unintentional repetitious administration to a toxic level. Many deaths each year from unintentional overdose. Potentiation with alcohol particularly hazardous. The drug is addictive, causing , causing physical as well as psychic dependency, and withdrawal phenomena are characteristically different from withdrawal of opiates.

Cocaine:
Slang names: the leaf, snow, speedballs ( when mixed with heroin)
Danger: Convulsions and death may occur from overdose. Paranoic activity. Very strong psychic but no physical dependence and no tolerance.

Codeine:
Slang Name: School boy
Danger: Occasionally taken (liquid preparations) for kicks, but large amount required. Contribution of the alcohol content to the effect may be significant. Degree and risk of abuse very minor. Occasionally resorted to by opiate-dependent persons to tide them over, with inadequate result .

Methamphetamine:
Slang names: speed, crystal or shabu
Danger: Excessive psychotoxic effects, sometimes with fatal outcome.


Morphine:
Slang names: M, dreamer
Danger: man is very sensitive to the respiratory depressant effect until tolerance develops. Psychic and physical dependence and tolerance develops readily, with a characteristic withdrawal syndrome.

General Terms:

Burned- to receive phony, bad or diluted drugs Gage - marijuana
Cap- a container of drugs, usually a capsule grass- marijuana

Course Title : Research and Thesis Writing 1 & 2
Course Number :
Credit Units : 1st Semester - Research & Thesis Writing 1: 3 units (1units lecture, 2 unit laboratory)
2nd Semester - Research & Thesis Writing 2: 2 units (1units laboratory)
Course Description : This course deals with the specific problem related to pharmaceutical sciences that would be worthwhile to investigate during the laboratory work. It will comprise actual pharmaceutical and pharmacologic principles and animal testing which will be conducted inside the laboratory. It also includes the thesis writing after experimental results are completed.

Prerequisite(s) : Senior standing
General Objectives : At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Relate the purpose(s) of choosing the problem for search.
2. Discuss the steps of the procedure for the investigation.
3. Present, organize, analyze and interpret the data collected and write scientifically.
4. Begin an independent study using logical thinking and scientific methods.
5. Gather new knowledge or data from primary or first-hand sources and not merely restate or reorganize what is already known or has been written.
6. Perform successfully the experimental procedures in the laboratory portion of the subject.
7. Present and defend a written output of the research.

Course Description: The course deals with the study of legal rules and regulations as applied to pharmacy and Pharmacy practice. It also embodies a code of ethics of the profession.

Prerequisite(s): Bioethics/ Christian Ethics, Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics 2

Course Title : Manufacturing Pharmacy
Course Number : Pharmaceutics II
Credit Units : 3 units (lecture) / 2 units (laboratory)
Course Description : This course presents the basic principles, methods and technology involved in the production of various drug dosage forms and delivery systems, from the initial design of the dosage forms to their actual manufacture, including the requirements for packaging, equipment and facilities.
Prerequisite(s) : Pharmaceutics I and Physical Pharmacy
Placement : 3rd year, 2nd semester
General Objectives : At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. enumerate and discuss the requirements for facilities, equipment, methods and processes, organization and personnel as specified in the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs);
2. outline the different pharmaceutical unit operations;
3. describe the principles and technology involved in the design, formulation, manufacture and packaging of the various drug dosage forms and delivery systems;
4. discuss how adjuvant ingredients, technological procedures, and material physical and chemical properties affect the formulation, design and production of the various drug dosage forms.

BEAT TEST STRESS

BEAT TEST STRESS
1. Tame the monster. There’s less to be fearful of than you think. Look at the exam in the context of your life. Is it the end of the world if you don’t score as high as you want? Just as long as you do your best, you have something to feel good about.
2. Visualize. Shut your eyes and imagine your teacher passing out the test and you know all the answers. You move through the test calmly, and when you get it back, you’ve got an A.
3. Chill. Slow down your mind and body. Try learning yoga or this exercise : inhale through your nose to the count of 10. exhale through your mouth to the count of 10.
4. Focus. Enter into a private world where it’s just and the test. There’s no teacher, tickling clock, students. Don’t let outside stuff distract your concentration.
5. Breathe. Rapid and shallow breathing causes the release of adrenaline, which can make you stressed. Deep breathing, which is slow and relaxed, triggers the release of endorphins, which stop you from feeling anxious.
6. Get a head start. Here’s a tip to stop you from freezing up on the test. When you get the exam paper, before looking at it, quickly write down all the key facts, dates and formulas you know at the back if necessary. Then start the test.
7. Laugh. humor helps reduce stress, it breaks the tension… which

STUDY TIPS

1. Start in class. Good study habits begin in class itself. Listen ( to the teacher, not your friend at the next desk or beside you!) and take lots of notes.
2. Quit cramming. Pulling an all- nighter right before a test, or writing a paper the day before it’s due are loser moves. After a night of no sleep and too much information, it’s amazing if you make it to school the next day.
3. Study in stages. Studying a little bit each day is the best way to retain information. Set aside a certain amount of time in your schedule and try to stick to it. Let your friend/ boyfriend /best friend forever knows when you’re studying and tell them not to call.
4. Unfrazzle first. Don’t start studying the second you get home from school. You need time to rest before you start working again. Take some time to stretch, exercise, grab a snack or talk on the phone.
5. Get in the right space. Where you study is important. Make sure it’s a well-lit quiet area where you have privacy. Sometimes white noise, like a fan or air conditioner, can cover distracting sounds and help you concentrate. If you can’t study at home, consider the library, but not the one at your school because you might run into a bunch of friends who’d rather chat.
6. Take breaks. “if you’re tired and just going through the motions, you’re wasting time” try the “50/10” METHOD: STUDY FOR 50 MINUTES, THEN Take a 10 minute break. “ by studying in blocks, you’ll have time to digest the material you’ve just studied before moving on. ”
7. Get tough first. Study the most difficult (or boring) things first while you still have a lot of energy. Save the easy things, or subjects you enjoy most, for last.
8. Always question. While studying, write down questions as you think of them. Wait until later and you’ll forget them!. Some of the questions you can answer yourself through studying, others you should bring to your teacher.
